On Thursday, April 18, the Leyden High School District 212 Board of Education approved the hiring of Dr. Julie Lam as the new East Leyden principal, effective July 1, 2024. The hiring of Lam is a result of an extensive search process, including a pre-screening of qualified candidates and a series of interviews with Leyden administrators, faculty, staff and students.
With the help of Leyden's new plumbing program, Rickardo Montero will enter the workforce after graduation as a union plumber with a job at a local company.
On April 17, East and West Leyden honored the Class of 2024 scholarship award recipients at the annual Leyden Senior Scholarship Awards Night.
Leyden Parent University will take place on Saturday, April 20, from 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. for all Leyden parents and guardians of students in grades 8 - 11.

Leyden’s award-winning, bilingual theatre program, Teatro Leyden, celebrates its anniversary by staging the show that launched the program 10 years ago, Man of La Mancha, on April 25-27, in the West Leyden auditorium.
Leyden proudly announces 115 students who have earned the Illinois Seal of Biliteracy. These students have proven to be highly proficient in English and at least one additional language through testing or a portfolio review process. This prestigious honor is noted on their high school diploma and transcripts and can be translated into college credit.
The Fern Award Ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 2 and recognizes the academic and extracurricular accomplishments of select students in the junior class and also recognizes select staff members for their service.
